When you head to Mumbai you may be overwhelmed with the number of places available for travelers to stay but don’t be fooled. Without regulations for hotels like there are in the US many of these rentals can be unfit for use so check the following before you book:

Security: Mumbai is generally a pretty safe place to travel but as Americans and foreigners in general make great targets it’s important to look for a place with 24 hour security. This can mean a desk clerk or armed guards, but someone should be on watch at all times.

Amenities: One of the great things about Mumbai is that you can often find great deals on fabulous places. Things like Direct tv and jetted tubs come standard in most rooms and often for a lower price than you’d expect.

Location: You don’t want to have to walk on foot to an area that may not be safe or somewhere you may get lost. Look for a hostel or hotel in the center of town so you won’t have to journey far from home.
